Child Care options

There are many different options when looking for the right child care setting for your child. These include:

  • Family Day Care - Professional child care providers who work from their home

  • Before and After School Care - Child care provided generally at or nearby the school your child attends

  • Occasional Care - For casual day care needs

  • Long Day Care - The majority child care centres are this.

  • In Home Care - Child care in your home.

Before you commit to a particular childcare option, weigh up what you are really looking for.Is it a centre that will be open long hours; a more personal home setting; or something after school hours? Depending on your answer, the next step would be to shop around to find a Childcare setting that would meet your needs. Take note of fees, philosophies, staff changeover, vacancies, location and other details such as meal and nappy provisions. Another major point to consider is does your child feel comfortable and happy? Whilst there is always a transition period, you need the setting you choose to work for your child as well as you.

The ‘mychild’ Australian Government Website is a fantastic site outlining childcare options, benefits, rebates, cost estimations, as well as actual childcare centres in your area. For more information please click on the link below.
